Fumigation and Warren Destruction
Fumigation of warrens can be an effective method of rabbit control, however it only kills the rabbits that are in the warren at the time and the surviving rabbits will return and re-open the holes. Rabbit control is always best done with multiple methods to ensure the best outcome.
Fumigation: a smoker is placed in the warren this then exposes what joins up. As smoke comes out of a hole it is filled & fumigated until no smoke is coming out. This means the warrens is airtight the rabbits will die underground.
Warren Destruction: we use a Rodenator which is a gas unit. Again the smoker is used to ensure the warren is airtight, then gas is fed in and this is then detonated, collapsing the tunnels making them unusable.
These methods go well together so I will explain how we usually use them:
- Rabbit removal using ferrets, dogs and Long Nets. This takes the rabbits from above ground harbor as well as warrens.
- Fumigate any warrens. This is to kill any the ferrets and dogs did not flush out.
- Warren destruction to remove the warrens, stopping future rabbits re-infesting.
